Wedding at Villa Catignano
Nevine and Anthony
Many destination weddings in Tuscany no longer end at the wedding day itself. They become multi-day experiences as a gift to friends and family, but also a reason to slow down and stay a little longer.
And this is where the welcome dinner comes in: the moment that opens the story, that gives guests time to land gently in an unfamiliar place, to look around, to find each other before everything truly begins. And, of course, to have fun. And, what’s more, Ulisse loves shooting both digital and film photography, so he did it to preserve a timeless story of the day!
Nevine and Anthony built their wedding around this idea. Three days. Two locations, in the finest of traditions: Villa Catignano for living the days, and the Certosa di Pontignano for the ceremony.

Welcome dinner Tuscany wedding: Villa Catignano and the Certosa di Pontignano
Villa Catignano is a seventeenth-century Sienese residence set among the hills of Chianti, built around an elegant Italian garden. Allegorical statues of the Four Seasons trace a scenic path between hedgerows and long perspectives. The interiors hold frescoed reception rooms, original parquet floors, and apartments that comfortably house guests for several nights. It is a home before it is a venue with that rare quality of places long inhabited, where every room carries the trace of those who lived there.
The evening before the wedding, Catignano came alive for the welcome dinner.
Guests who had travelled from afar found time to settle in, to breathe the Chianti air, to let the atmosphere do its work. Distances shortened. Conversations stretched well beyond what anyone had expected. The wedding began to take shape that evening, in the garden, with the light shifting and the scent of a pizza party and Tuscan countryside drifting through the air.
Then came the wedding day. And with it, an entirely different scene: the Certosa di Pontignano.
A monastic complex founded in the fourteenth century and rebuilt in the sixteenth, the Certosa lies just a few kilometres away, in that same Sienese countryside. But the register changes the moment you pass through the gate. The warmth and conviviality of the villa gives way to the hushed monumentality of the cloister. Frescoed walls, the gathered light of the church of San Pietro, a silence the place has kept for centuries — everything creates an atmosphere of quiet intensity that belongs only to spaces shaped by deep time.
Then the story returned to Catignano, where the reception came to life in the garden of the Four Seasons WHERE long shared tables, music, toasts, and a light that slowly yielded to night.
It is this movement between places — from welcome dinner to ceremony, from the Certosa to the celebration, from the evening before to the final night — that makes the experience of a Tuscany destination wedding complete.
Not one day. Three.
